MÉTIS Strong at 71 years old

Working out with weights, has played a significant role in my physical and spiritual wellness routine for over 50 years.

MÉTIS STRONG

The Role of fitness in dealing with PTSD

As I started writing for this section of the website, I asked myself if it was appropriate to share about my decades involvement in strength training on this deep dive into my Metis family history?

When talking with Susan, my wife of 36 plus years, about this question she said "it's important that we be strong and feel confident within ourselves to be able to weather the frequently intrusive feelings and memories from our traumatic past." When I heard her say this I remembered how often I have used training the body to get past or through a terrible memory or feeling that I couldn't seem to shake any other way. I used training to remind myself that I had the power through the consistent, and disciplined application of training principles to effect actual and progress positive change in my life. At 71 years of age, I can't underscore just how powerful this positive form of bio feedback has been in keeping me on the good road of life.

Today I'm proud of what I've achieved as a man, a husband and a father. I give thanks to the Creator, my spiritual mentors, psychological therapists, educators, and the many athletic coaches and trainers that have taught and inspired me over the decades.

NOW it's your time.

The rest of the section of the website is dedicated to you. The content of this page will be filled with weight lifting instruction in the big movements The Squat, Deadlift and Bench Press that build strength, confidence and effect significant changes in physical appearance.

By the way, for you women that are fearful of getting hurt or growing to looking like men if you lift for strength...

Over the past two years I have trained a class of 15 women in the big movements with ages ranging from 15 - 73 years. Each woman has achieved significant gains without injury and all of them have developed strong, athletic womanly physics. No one has developed a manly look. Think Wonder Woman.

I would like to add to this by including the historical traumas that have been past on to us in our DNA and therefore live in our tissue just waiting for a trigger to be brought forth into the moment.

From the outside I appear strong, confident and free of the stresses and problems that plague many of our Metis people. This couldn't be further from the truth. I suffer just like many of my brothers and sisters. Thankfully, I had the loving support of my Grandmother from an early age, an intelligent, hard working step-father who provided food and shelter, and a Metis Mother who, though mentally ill, was a potent force of nature and passed on the gene of survival to me and my siblings.

athletically and learned about training and its many benefits over 55 years of study and practice.
